5 Weight Management Tips
Weight management is a hot topic now that the weather has finally improved. You’re probably brainstorming like crazy about ways to jumpstart your personal weight loss program for the new spring season. Questions such as, “What should I eat?”, “How should I exercise?”, “How can I keep these healthy weight management goals consistent?” are not uncommon this time of year. Fortunately, we have some answers that might help you out!
These simple, incredibly easy-to-follow tips will start your weight management program off on the right path.
1. Exchange fruit juice with actual fruit.
Fat isn’t the only food group that leads to excess weight. Sugar is a main culprit as well, and sugar constitutes most of fruit juice. Instead of consuming juice, we suggest eating only whole fruit. Even though fruit does have high quantities of sugar, it also contains natural nutrients that will boost your metabolism. And not all fruit has high amounts of sugar; if you want low-sugar fruit options, try strawberries, bananas, and apples.
2. Use smaller dishes.
Spring cleaning is still under way (especially for us procrastinators), so add a small item to your cleaning list: take all large dinner plates and bowls out of the cupboards, leaving behind the smaller dessert plates. Even if you fill smaller plates to the edges, you’ll still be eating less than usual.
3. Take a walk instead of watching tv.
The NY Daily News claims that the average American spends 5 hours a day watching tv. We suggest spending that time to work up an appetite instead. Take a walk down the block, walk the dog if you have one, invite your family members to accompany you. Every chance to exercise makes a difference.
4. Brush your teeth more often.
Maintaining great teeth hygiene contains its own health benefits, but it can also stop you from wanting to eat between meals. If you plan on not only brushing but also flossing and rinsing every time you brush, you’ll think twice about ruining all that effort with a quick snack between meals.
5. Chew gum if you’re hungry before meals.
If you don’t carry a travel toothbrush with you to stop those between-meal cravings, chew gum to distract you from false hunger pains. The point is to trick your mind into thinking you’ve already eaten and you won’t feel hungry anymore.
